What is Acupuncture? Meet our Acupuncturist
Acupuncture is a component of the health care system of China that can be traced back at least 5,000 years. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on the belief that all living beings (including animals) have a vital energy, called “Qi” or “Chi,” that circulates through twelve energy pathways known as meridians on the body. Each meridian is associated with one of a 12 different hollow (heart, bladder, lungs) and solid (kidney, liver, spleen) organ systems. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow through the body and that a disruption of this energy flow are believed to be responsible for disease. Acupuncture is a methodic and proven effective treatment to unblock or influence Qi by inserting needles into specific points along these meridians and help it flow back into proper natural balance.
The goal of acupuncture is to restore the healthy energy flow by controlling pain and other symptoms of a particular illness. However, in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture works best when combined with a proper diet and herbal medicines.
